Version 3 Release
Release 3 of IPF is now available, and is a major update
with new features as well as changes to improve and simplify the end-user's
installation experience.
The most important change is to the FTP settings
dialog page. End user testing has shown the new design to be both
easier to understand than the IPF 2 design, and as well as more flexible for
the package creator. The 'Local install' page and 'HTTP settings' page have
also been improved and simplified.
It is easier in IPF 3 to produce a package that should be installed to
the 'web root'. In IPF 2, the name of the folder which was selected as the
package was taken to be the default 'package folder name'. This meant that
it was not possible to have an empty package folder name by default.
In IPF 3, there is a new text field 'Default package folder name' which is
filled when the package is built, and can be empty.
A further change is with post-install scripts. Any output returned from a
non-interactive post-install script will now be displayed in a dialog to the
end-user. This is to allow errors or other information to be reported back.
There are many more new features and improvements listed in the changelog
bundled with the download, and this latest generation of IPF allows creation
of installers to give your end users a unique, automatic and best possible
alternative to time consuming and error prone ZIP file distributions and
manual installation.
Please see the IPF product page for more details.
